Ran into an unexpected obstacle when I tried to come up with a snapshot of women&#8217;s rights in Minnesota in 1904. Obviously women couldn&#8217;t vote in state and national elections, but what else were they formally barred from doing on the basis of sex? There are lists like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2014\/08\/07\/living\/sixties-women-5-things\/\">this one on CNN<\/a> cataloging discriminatory practices that lasted quite late, but nothing I could find for the period I&#8217;m concerned about. If nothing else, the search yielded a 1916 <em>Yale Law Journal<\/em> article arguing that states where only men could vote were capable of passing legislation promoting women&#8217;s rights, written by an author with the they-just-don&#8217;t-make-them-like-they-used-to name of Epaphroditus Peck.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mother Antonia: Worked on draft 2.
